Are one page websites good for SEO in 2024?
The short answer is no. One page website are not good for SEO and if you have a one page website for your business you will find it impossible to rank on Google.
How many pages should you have on your website to rank on PG1 of Google?
A website should be made up of a minimum of 5 pages:
A Homepage
A Contact Page
Privacy Policy Page
Terms Of Service Page
Services You Offer Page
An added bonus would be if you had an about you page. Although this isn’t vital for SEO, about you pages help build trust between you and your potential client or customer.
However having 5 pages on your website does not mean you are going to rank on Google but you would be in with a much better shot then just having a one page website.
So let’s talk about what will get you ranking.
Quality SEO Optimised Content is a must on any website
Having a website with quality content is a must when it comes to SEO. This means staying clear of any AI generated content. Instead focus on writing clear and informative information that is well written, with no spelling mistakes, that is easy to follow for your customers. Repeatedly creating high quality content will provide you with the authority you need for Google to rank you.
What makes up a high quality piece of SEO content?
When it comes to writing high quality content there is a few factors that go into it other than just writing it. These factors include the length of your content, the keywords that you use within your content, the headings you are using and the overall set up of the content. As well as ensuring that the content you are writing is actually relevant to your business and will attract in your ideal clients.
How long should SEO content be?
Well written SEO content should be at least 2,000 words. If you are trying to rank on Google and you are only writing 400-500 words on a page then it will be impossible for you to start ranking on Google.
Google is looking for SEO content with substance. This means it is important to break down your content into sections and talk about each different topic under a new heading. By doing this this will help you build up words quickly within your content!
For example:
This article is called “Are one page websites good for SEO” - the short answer was no. However I didn’t just leave it at that. I thought about what my readers would want to know such as; how many pages should you have on a website, how to write quality SEO content and how long should SEO content be etc.
I broke this article out into different sections, each with their own heading, and talked about each one separately. By doing this I am providing my readers with vital information not only on one page websites but on what they need to do instead and how to work on achieving their SEO goals.
Making sure your content is relevant for your ideal customers
Before keyword research begins the first thing you need to understand is your target audience. Who is it that you are trying to bring to your business?
Everything that you write about on your blog or on your website should be done to try and attract your ideal customer or client.
For instance if you run a pet grooming parlour then all of the website pages you have on your website or all of the blogs that your write about should be written with your ideal customer in mind. Pet owners.
There would be no point in you writing a blog post about the best car engines of 2024 if your whole website has been set up to try and book more pet grooming clients.
I see a lot of business owners writing blog posts or creating website pages that have nothing to do with their actual business. They normally do this because they are trying to jump on the back of trends with the intention of getting more visitors to their website. They think more visitors will mean more sales. But they are wrong.
Having more visitors on your website is pointless if those visitors are not interested in buying or booking the services you are offering.
Therefore before you go any further in this article, do you know who your target audience is?
Customer Intent
Once you have figured out who your target audience it is time to start thinking about their search intent.
When it comes to blog posts on your website people are normally looking for tips & tricks. When it comes to service or sales pages people are normally looking to book a service or buy a product.
Each page on your website needs to be set up for the correctly for your customers search intent.
So what this means is that your blog posts should provide friendly and useful information that would build trust between you and your potential customer. Your sales and service pages should be set up to try and promote or lead that customer into a sale. Each page would use a different set of keywords which I will speak about shortly.
People will also search in different ways when they are looking for information or to invest in a service or product.
When a customer is looking for information then will usually search “How Can I Do X” or “What Is The Best X for Y”. In these cases your need to set up blog posts or informational pages that would help with your potential customers current issue and answer their questions.
When a customer is looking to invest in a product or service they will usually search for “Where to buy X” or “X for sale” or “Hire a X”. In these cases you would need to have pages set up that are ready to lead your potential customer into a sale.
When you create a new page on your website then it is important to consider are the people coming to this page looking for information or are they looking to invest.
Picking the right keywords for your SEO content
When it comes to SEO content it is important to do keyword research before start writing. If we skip this step what can happen is that we create content that nobody is actually interested in. So it flops.
This means having to do SEO keyword research. It is important to find keywords that out potential customers or clients are actually searching for on Google. Once we have found a keyword with low competition but high search volume we can start creating content that is focused specifically around that keyword.
What are keywords with low competition but high search volume?
Keywords that have low competition but high search volume are keywords that a lot of people are looking for but not many websites have created content for that topic.
If you are a brand new website then you will not be able to compete against websites such as Amazon, ASOS, Wayfair or even Target. Some of these website have had 20+ years in business meaning they are Google’s favourites, because they have consistently provided Google with high quality content.
Big brands like this will find it easy to rank for 1 word keywords such as “SEO”, “Fashion”, “Business”, “Clothing”. These one word keywords often come with high search volume but also very high competition because these bigger brands are ranking for them.
So instead as a small fish in the pond your business must go after “long tail keywords”. These are keywords made up of 3+ words. These “long tail keywords” can have high search volume but low compeition. This means these bigger brands have ignored then and are yet to create any content for these keywords.
This is where you can come in and create a piece of content that specifically targets this long tail keyword, which will help you rank on Google.
How to find long tail keywords for my business?
To find long tail keywords for you business it is important to invest in a third party software such as Ubersuggest, SEMrush, MOZ or Ahrefs.
These SEO keyword research tools will help you find the keywords that will help you rank on Google.
